These days, teachers are given so many requirements, acronyms, and references for effective instruction that they all seem to get jumbled together. Providing effective personalized instruction based on the standards is often like navigating a maze of educational jargon where the real message is lost somewhere along the way. Every leader seems to have a different vision. This session will open the door for a deep discussion about the heart of instruction, including ways we can involve students and plan for authentic student ownership of the learning goals. Throughout this session, participants will explore the tools in their educational toolbelt, determine the key differences between proficiency scales and rubrics, and practice prioritizing their standards and expectations by crafting scales and rubrics that might work for their class. Participants should bring a current copy of the state standards and come prepared to dig into the various levels of thinking and learning.
